The decision to establish the Olave Baden-Powell Society was taken by the WAGGGS World Conference 30 years ago in July 1984 and the first event was held in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1986. There were 90 Founding members, two of them from Finland, Kata Jouhki and Helvi Sipilä.
Today the Society has over 1,300 members. The establishment of the Olave Baden-Powell Society has been a success story in many ways. The financial support that the Society has given to the World Association has been of great importance. Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting has become better known around the world and the events have become a forum for people to meet and learn more about worldwide Guiding and Scouting. In Finland there are 28 members, more will join at the coming event.
