In Finnish, the special activities for guides and scouts with special needs is called “sisupartio”. “Sisu” is a Finnish word loosely translated to mean stoic determination, bravery and hardiness. Sisu is about taking action against the odds and displaying courage. In this workshop you will learn about Finnish sisupartio and get to discuss what it is to be a guide or scout with special needs.

“Gender equality is not only a women’s issue, it is a human rights issue”, said actress Emma Watson in her speech in the UN Headquarters when opening the HeForShe campaign, which aims to empower boys and men to take action in gender equality. As we all know, WAGGGS is the largest voluntary movement dedicated to girls and young women in the world. So… what is the role of boys and men from our perspective? Is engaging boys and men to work for gender equality a threat or a possibility?

As guides and scouts we believe in non-formal education. Through our activities children and youth grow to be responsible citizens in the world reaching their fullest potential. How can we tell the world how much we learn in guiding and scouting? What are the aspects of guiding and scouting that should be recognized and valued in formal education or work life?
5. The Partnership of Nepal Scouts & the Guides and Scouts of Finland,

The Guides and Scouts of Finland and the Nepal Scouts have a long history of partnership. Themes of the most recent projects include capacity building and youth involvement as well as peace and democracy education.
